Divinity Student Continues Ministry Work with Master's Degree
Currently the Senior Minister of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Windsor, NC, Reverend Travis T. Judkins has always known that the ministry was "a call on his life." With a desire to obtain the essential tools necessary to pastor effectively and become an administrator in academia, Judkins decided to follow the path of his late pastor Rev. Dr. Fred J. Boddie, Jr., a Shaw graduate, and enroll in the University's School of Divinity Master of Divinity (M.Div.) program.
Judkins believes the program is a perfect fit for his academic and ministry goals, as he has gained new knowledge regarding theological education within the African context and has learned the importance of obtaining a sound theological education to adequately meet the demands of ministry and graduate study. During his time in the program, Judkins has received the Shaw University President's Award and was listed in the 2012 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." Active in the community, Judkins is also a member of the Vidant Bertie Hospital Director's Council (Windsor, NC), Generations Community Credit Union Advisory Council and founder of the Mount Olive Community Enhancement Corporation, a non-profit organization that seeks to help individuals economically, educationally and psychologically.
A senior, Judkins plans to pursue a doctorate degree following graduation and hopes to one day serve as an administrator or president of a university. He believes that there is an immense need for more African-Americans in higher education, and with his master's degree from Shaw, Judkins is prepared to add to the ranks of esteemed African-American educators.
