The Center for Alternative Programs in Education (CAPE) is an adult degree program designed to serve adult students interested in earning an undergraduate degree that fits with the multiple responsibilities of the average working adult. The program’s mission is to provide quality educational services to adult learners to prepare them to compete in the 21st century workforce and become productive citizens in their surrounding communities, the nation and the world. Since 1994, more than 4,000 students have graduated from the program
The CAPE Adult Degree Program provides educational delivery systems for self-directed, highly motivated persons who are otherwise unable to attend college because of job or family responsibilities, military service obligations, and/or those who require evening and/or part -time classes. CAPE faculty affords students the unique opportunity to participate in a learning experience that goes beyond the traditional educational setting. Students in the program can complete courses online or through VTC (video-teleconference) and can enhance their education through internships, seminars and credit for life experiences. Classes are offered during the evening and on weekends to meet the needs of non-traditional students.
Shaw University has nine CAPE Centers throughout North Carolina conveniently located to accommodate adult learners:
