Lady Bears Provide Instruction at Softball Clinic

2014 Softball clinic

March 27, 2014 – Last month, the Lady Bears softball team took to the field -- not for a game, but for the second annual Softball Clinic sponsored by the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department.

Approximately 30 young ladies from the ages of eight to 14 gathered at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex at 8:00 a.m. for instruction and fun before the Lady Bears geared up for the CIAA Softball Roundup being held later in the day.

The 30 young athletes included members of the Havoc youth travel team, a prominent team in local softball.

"This event is crucial for us because it is important that we connect with the local community," said Shaw head softball coach Kimberly Miller. "It's also important to give the young women at the clinic positive role models who emphasize the importance of academics, as well as playing the game the right way."

The clinic, which was originally scheduled as part of the Second Annual Shaw University Softball Challenge, was moved to Saturday because of inclement weather on the original date.
