Lady Bears Win 2018 CIAA Women’s Volleyball Championship
The 2018 women's volleyball season has been unlike any other. On Saturday, November 10, 2018, that held to be true as the No. 1 seeded Shaw University women’s volleyball team won the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championship
over No. 1 seeded Virginia State University.
During the first set, the teams went back and forth and suffered a number of service errors. In a heated second set, the two teams entered a heated rally. The Lady Bears continued the momentum in the third set, as the team tacked on points four at a
time. The Lady Bears finished the evening with 54 kills, 33 digs, and 8 blocks.
Senior, Keveesha Wattley (St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) was named the 2018-CIAA Tournament MVP. Saraya Klink (Fuquay-Varina, NC), Karla Sosa (Brownsville, TX), and Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) were selected to All-CIAA Tournament
With the conference championship victory, the Shaw Bears earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament.
