Shaw Students Meet With President for Center Court Chats
February 19, 2014 - A cross section of Shaw University Bears were nominated by
their department chairs to join Dr. Faulcon in "Center Court Chats".
The forum was created by Dr. Faulcon after he met with Student Government
Association President, Brandon Moyer. Moyer described the communication gap
that existed between upper administrators and the student body. In an effort to
strengthen the relationship, Dr. Faulcon met students on their terms - in the
Shaw University Spaulding gymnasium.
The gym was void of faculty and staff and provided a safe,
open forum for students to share their ideas related to enhancing their college
experience at Shaw University. Their ideas fell into the categories of
improving customer service, academic advising, faculty and staff
accountability, dormitory enhancements, incentives and scholarships, cafeteria
choices and an eclectic mix of campus activities.
Their voices were heard and ideas recorded. Dr. Faulcon
assured them that there would be teams put in place to address their needs.
Center Court Chats comes at a poignant time in the growth
of Shaw University, as Dr. Faulcon leads Shaw in Process Optimization -
an undertaking that serves to analyze the
University’s operations, identify inefficiencies and areas for growth, then put
plans in place to achieve quantifiable improvement across all areas of the
More students will have a chance for their voices to be
heard, as this energetic forum will be held monthly.
