The appointment was made during a meeting of the Board of Trustees Executive Committee on December 30, 2013. Dr. Dorothy Cowser Yancy, who previously served as Shaw’s president, retired on December 31st. "Dr. Faulcon has a proven record of excellence in higher education and has been committed to our students, faculty and staff for more than 15 years," said Dr. Bell. "We are confident that the University will continue to flourish and advance under his leadership."

Prior to Dr. Faulcon accepting the appointment of Acting President, he served as Dean of Shaw’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies and as an Associate Professor of Public Administration. His career in academia spans more than 25 years with both teaching and administrative positions, including serving as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Saint Augustine’s College and as the Acting Executive Director for Northeastern North Carolina Tomorrow, Inc. at Elizabeth City State University.
