Shaw’s Brightest Receive Recognition at Awards Day
April 21, 2014 – More than 400 Shaw students were recognized for outstanding achievement during the University’s annual awards day. Taking place in the Thomas J. Boyd Chapel on Shaw’s campus, students received trophies, pins and other accolades for making the President’s list, Dean’s list and receiving scholarships.
The program included spoken word by Petrina C. Bryant; recognition of outstanding students by major; a presentation of endowed, national alumni association and United Negro College Fund scholarship recipients; and recognition of students that were members of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges, the Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society, the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society, the Phi Alpha Honor Society, the Honors College/Presidential Scholars, the Ethics Bowl Team and the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Team. The program concluded with a benediction from University Chaplain April Rhinehardt and the singing of the Shaw University alma mater. This year’s Awards Day honorees received more than $422,000 in scholarships.
To be eligible for an academic award, students had to meet the following criteria:
- Full-time enrollment in the Fall 2013 semester and EARNED at least:
- 12 hours undergraduate or
- 9 hours graduate (divinity) or
- 6 hours graduate (education), and
- Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 at the end of the fall 2013 semester. GPAs which qualify students
