Bethany King, Miss Shaw University - 2016-2017

Bethany Grace King (Bekay)is currently a senior, Business Administration major with a concentration in Management. She is a native of The Gate City, Greensboro North Carolina. Bethany is the daughter of Charles-Etta Marie King-Sterling (Thomas Sterling) and the Late Rev. Dr. Michael Anthony King. She has four older siblings, Rodney Beasley, Kevin Henry, Malachi King and Matthew King. Bethany has always exuded high levels of vitality and warmth for her community. During her years at Northeast and Northern Guilford High school, she was on the cheerleading squad, a manager for the track and field team, a member of the drama club and the gospel choir. She also served as senior peer mentor and an advocate for her companions.   

Growing up on the morals of public servitude and the advancement of minorities, she has always been at the forefront of any leadership platform that would address issues the total wellness of the young African American generation. During her undergraduate career she emerged herself into organizations like Student Government Association, Student Activities Board and Evalesco Models that helped mold her into a confident leader who is aware of her presence and persistent in her passion. Upon Bekay’s arrival at Shaw University in spring 2015, she became the Vice President of the Student Activities Board, Special Assistant to the Vice President of External Affairs (Student Government Association), Resident Advisor for the Talbert O. Shaw Residence Hall, and Manager and social media director of the Shaw Women’s basketball team. Bethany believes that all of her blessings that weren’t by coincidence and takes any opportunity to pour into others so that they may also benefit from God’s grace.

Upon her completing her undergraduate career, Bethany Grace is looking forward to pursuing a dual Masters/Juris Doctorate degree focusing on Entertainment Law. As she moves forward into her life she understands that she must not lean onto her own understanding but towards the Lord who is the source of her strength. She is a firm believer that “Faith doesn’t make things easy, but it makes things possible.”  


Miss Shaw University's Court

Miss Shaw University's court consists of all the Kings and Queens at Shaw University. They represent the ideals of the young men and women who attend this illustrious institution. During their reign of service, Miss Shaw University and her Court collectively participate in several philanthropic and educational endeavors. They also produce on-campus programs that benefit the Shaw University community.
