    Shaw Coding Crash Course with Iron Yard Undergraduate students at Shaw University unofficially opened programming at the school’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center with a three-day beginners’ crash course on web coding.

    Learners from the state's 113 colleges who complete certain course requirements will gain admission into Shaw baccalaureate degree programs, and the university will offer prospective and confirmed students counseling to aid in transition.

    Shaw University is the receipt of a $25,000 gift from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund to establish the Dr. Kim Leathers Legacy Endowment Fund. The gift kicks off the University’s effort to raise $50,000 for the endowment.

    The Roanoke Rapids City Council unanimously voted for a resolution honoring former Shaw University president and alumnus, Dr. James E. Cheek, Sr. '58. The Council will hold the resolution during its first February meeting which coincides with Black History Month.
