    NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

The purpose of New Student Orientation at Shaw University is to prepare students to be academically successful by:

    • Creating a welcoming environment that builds a sense of community among the incoming class and connects them to faculty, staff, and other students.
    • Providing information and resources that will allow students to make informed academic decisions and healthy social choices.
    • Providing a framework for four years of success through the communication of expectations, norms, and standards.

New Student Orientation consists of two parts: virtual orientation modules and in-person sessions. (Please note that students must complete the virtual modules to receive an invitation to attend the in-person sessions.)

Once you receive your official acceptance letter from Shaw University’s Office of Admissions, you will log in to the orientation platform by visiting http://orientation.shawu.edu to complete the virtual orientation modules. The orientation platform is comprised of interactive modules to introduce you to campus life, students, university resources, and academic support. Virtual new student orientation modules are to be completed by ALL new, incoming first-year and transfer students.

The Fall 2022 New Student Orientation experience will be like none other! Upon arriving on campus for New Student Orientation, students will have completed all administrative tasks (financial clearance, course registration, medical clearance, and housing requests), creating a seamless onboarding process. Orientation will take place over three (3) days to provide a welcoming experience for our incoming class. In addition to providing a welcoming orientation experience for students, we will engage parents in a way that leaves them feeling confident in allowing us to serve their student and prepared to best support their student. Agenda will be emailed prior to arrival.

If you have any questions concerning new student orientation, feel free to reach out to the Office of Student Retention at OSR@shawu.edu.
