Your Path to Success

Shaw U has been graduating students for more than 150 years. We know how to prepare you for a career that is meaningful to you and get you to the finish line. It starts on Day One.

    Your First Two Years

In year one you’ll make the leap to college-level learning with help from your First-Year Experience advisors. This is your chance to explore your interests, learn study strategies, and identify any areas where you need extra help. Your Second year Experience is designed to help you step up your studies, refine your career goals, and decide on a major. You might join a campus organization or even make plans to study abroad.

    Academic Support

You’ll always have backup at Shaw. The trained professionals in our Office of Academic Success will advise you on classes and majors, and set you up with tutoring. Hitting a rough patch? A counselor will coach you as you work to right yourself. At the Writing Center, experts will help you outline a paper or make a grad school application shine.

    The Shaw U Honors Program

If you are a standout student with a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and grad school hopes, you can apply to the Shaw University Honors Program. Honors students dive deep into academic topics and are eligible for special scholarships. As an honors student, you’ll also serve as a role model and mentor to your peers.

    Internships & Careers

Some of the best internships and career opportunities are right in your backyard—in downtown Raleigh, a corporate and technology hub. Shaw’s career experts are here to help you take advantage of it all and point you to the best resources. You can learn how to polish your resume and ace a job interview, and land the perfect internship. They’ll even help you after you graduate.

    Study Abroad

You may dream of a college semester in another country. Ready to fly? Shaw’s Goal Getters grant will help you get a passport! And the Global Education Program can take you to the world’s far corners for a week or semester of study, even an international internship. These learning adventures are open and affordable.

    Schools & Departments

Once you choose your major, you’ll be studying in one of Shaw’s three schools: Arts, Sciences & Humanities; Business & Professional Studies; or Divinity.

    Graduate & Professional Studies

Shaw U has a history of graduating teachers and pastors who are making a difference in their communities and beyond—including several who’ve gone on to become college presidents. Explore our graduate school’s Master’s degrees in Education and Divinity.

    Adult Learning Opportunities

It’s never too late to earn a Bachelor’s degree. Shaw’s affordable in-person and online programs offer flexible scheduling and the same level of academic support available to all of our students.
