Overview

Shaw University offers four Master’s degree programs that reflect our history of educating “teachers and preachers” who go on to serve as leaders in their fields.

Shaw’s graduate programs are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission of Colleges. Programs in the Divinity School are also accredited by the Association of Theological Schools; the education program is accredited by the Council of the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).

Thank you for your interest in the Department Of Education at Shaw University. Alumni of Shaw’s Master’s program in Education have developed distinguished careers as master teachers, school administrators, and leaders in the field of early childhood education.

  • In order to obtain unconditional admission, you must meet or exceed the following criteria:

    • An undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 from an accredited institution of higher education. (The GPA requirement may be waived if you have 3 or more years of successful teaching at the Preschool–2nd grade level.)
    • A minimum of two years of documented relevant educational or professional experiences in an early childhood education setting.
    • If you are an international student, a TOEFL score of at least 500.
    • A successful interview with the Graduate Program Committee.

    In addition, you will need to provide two letters of recommendation, with one professional reference from a present or former supervisor.

  • Please submit the following materials to complete your application packet.

    • Application for Admission Form. Complete and submit the form online.
    • $50.00 application fee. You can pay online with VISA or MasterCard, or mail a money order, or a certified check payable to Shaw University, to the mailing address below.
    • Transcript Release Form. Download the form and have your school forward an official undergraduate transcript to the mailing address below.
    • Student Reference Form. Download the form and have two (2) references complete and return the forms to the mailing address below.
    • Copy of GRE scores. One unofficial copy of GRE scores is acceptable until official scores arrive from ETS.
