Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships

The primary purpose of the Student Financial Aid Office is to provide financial assistance to students and parents who family resources are insufficient to meet educational expenses.

Financial aid at Shaw University consist of scholarships, grants, loans and jobs awarded singly or in the form of a "package" to meet a student's financial need. The factor of need is considered for all forms of financial assistance unless otherwise stipulated.

Financial aid is awarded for one year only, upon re-application and demonstrated continued eligibility. The priority deadline for applying for Shaw University administered financial aid is March 1st for the ensuing academic year.

  • The State of North Carolina has changed its method of determining residency for purposes of state financial aid. North Carolina Residency will be made by the State through its Residency Determination Service (RDS) website. You may complete the determination at that website at your convenience. You must be determined to be a resident of North Carolina via RDS before we can consider you for any financial aid from the state. For general and more detailed information about RDS that may prove helpful to you, please visit the RDS website.

  • Additional Financial Aid Available: If you are a dependent undergraduate student in need of additional financial aid, your parent may apply for a Direct PLUS loan at www.studentloans.gov. Your parent must apply and be credit approved for a Direct Plus Loan.

  • FSA Login Changes: The FSA ID, a username and password, has replaced the Federal Student Aid PIN and must be used to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID confirms your identity when you access your financial aid information and electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents. If you do not already have an FSA ID, you can create one when logging in to fafsa.gov, the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS®) at www.nslds.ed.gov, StudentLoans.gov, StudentAid.gov, and Agreement to Serve (ATS) at www.teach-ats.ed.gov
