Major in Visual and Performing Arts (B.A.)

Shaw University offers a bachelor of arts degree in visual and performing arts with a concentration in music. Our degree is designed for students to gain an opportunity to prepare, nurture and develop individual musicianship on a professional level of artistic accomplishment. The program strives to enhance the musical talents and abilities of its students in an effort to reach their highest potential. Students in the department can expect to learn the fundamentals of music, and graduate with the ability to link stylistic traits with given historical periods, analyze music and demonstrate appropriate musical performance. Music majors also gain real-world experience with performances across the country and around the world. Students will gain valuable skills and knowledge in music theory, music history, conducting and applied music study .
