Shaw University, AUA paving path to med school for HBCU students

Dr. Shirley Ariwodo graduated from American University of Antigua College of Medicine in 2022. She will speak with students March 18 at Shaw University’s Research Triangle Park campus about how she became a doctor.

RALEIGH — Students from North Carolina’s 10 historically Black colleges and universities have an opportunity to explore a path toward medical school when representatives from American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) visit Shaw University’s campus in Research Triangle Park, 800 Park Offices Dr. in Durham.

The March 18 session from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. will provide students with information about admission requirements and campus life at the medical school in the eastern Caribbean.

During the session, Dr. Shirley Ariwodo, who graduated from AUA in 2022, will share her journey to becoming a doctor.

AUA is particularly interested in admitting Black, indigenous and other people of color.
